Basense
Case Study
August 2024
Basense is a social media platform where people can connect with others by joining different meetups and events. Basense also helps build a community by allowing users to share their interests and recommend things they enjoy.
Team and Role
I worked as the Product Designer of the founding team, where my role was to design the entire product, from research to conceptualization, design, and testing.
Competitive analysis
When I joined the team, the first version of the product was almost ready to launch on the App Store and Play Store. I spent a lot of time learning about the product, checking out similar products in the market, understanding users' problems, and figuring out what could make Basense stand out.
I created detailed profiles of our competitors, looking at their marketing strategies, target audience, usability, design, and performance. I also did a SWOT analysis to see where we stood compared to others.
By understanding the strengths and weaknesses of existing recommendation and event platforms, I was able to shape a clearer and better idea of where we needed to go with Basense.
Previous design and user experience of Basense
Design Process
Our approach began with in-depth discussions to establish a strong foundation. We prioritized understanding the core requirements and user needs before considering any additional "nice to have" features. Through regular app updates, we continually improved its functionality. Once implemented, we conducted user testing to ensure the effectiveness of these features, thereby enhancing the overall user experience of the app.
Here I am explaining the design process that we follow.
We followed the double diamond theory for Basense. My primary objective is to integrate the fundamental stages of Discovery or research, Definition, Ideation, and Implementation for the product.
1. Research or Discovery:
We focused on the challenges of the existing design of the app and worked towards the solutions.
2. Define
User persona:
3. Ideation
Basense User Journey
4. Implementation
Wireframing and Prototyping:
In response to the identified problems, I worked to come up with possible solutions.
1. Onboarding
2. Homescreen
3. Recommendation Screen
4. Event Screen
5. Chat
6. Notification
7. Profile
8. Real-time app walkthrough

User Testing
To quantitatively review the usability assumptions, I did user testing, which gave insights about the product in great detail. I also documented it in my blog post where I mentioned the steps I took to perform user testing - Testing with limits!

Final Product
Basense is LIVE on the App Store and Play Store!
Takeaway
This project holds a special place in my heart as it was my first real-world experience. Looking back, I realize there are many areas where I could have optimized my approach. I remember discussing this with our CEO, Raimar, who gave me some valuable advice: no matter how well you perform, when you look back, you’ll always feel like you could have done something better. And that’s the essence of learning.
As I reflect on this journey, I take pride in the progress made while appreciating the lessons that came with each step forward.
